A Filemaker database designed to keep track of baseball statistics. The current version only manages hitting stats.
For what is it good?
If you and your friends are in a fantasy league of some sort and you don’t want to pay hundreds of dollars to find out how well you are doing, this database will save you a lot of money.
Why did you make it?
My friends and I are in a baseball draft and I wanted to know how well I was doing without paying a lot of money.
Do you mean I can get updated stats at the touch of a button?
Well, almost. It still does take a little bit of work.
From where do you get the stats?
There are two main sources for baseball stats: the internet and newspapers. The most useful internet sources I’ve found are Nando and ESPN, but there could be others. And, of course, the best newspaper is Baseball Weekly.
For what is that ‘owners’ file there?
Once you have the stats imported into the database, the owners file acts as the lookup file so the database can match the player with the appropriate owner and position. You will have to go through all the players and type in the appropriate owner for each. But after you’ve done this it will match the owners to the players at the touch of a button. The owners file I’m including is pretty much up to date but for each trade you’ll have to update it again.
Why do you have more than one version of the player field in the owners file?
Depending on where you get the stats from, the players name appears differently. One might list Chipper Jones as ‘Jones’ and another might list him as ‘C. Jones’.
